Communications of the Pennsic Staff

Note, this page is announcements from the Pennsic staff for the current year. If you want to see announcements from prior years, see Older Communications of the Pennsic Staff

I used to have these at the end of my A Day In The Life of a Land Agent page, but they’ve gotten longer and longer over the last few years. So I’ve moved all of the old stuff to the old page, and this page is for the new stuff.

The following is just a bunch of excerpts from communications from the Pennsic staff that I see (mostly on the Facebook groups listed at the top of this page) and think are useful information.

Where relevant and feasible I will sooner or later use this information to update the rest of this page, but this section is just a place to quickly save the original communication. As such the amount of editing and formatting below will be minimal.

Also, while I have tried half-heartedly to keep them in chronological order, I do not necesssarily find them in chronological order and I don’t care that much.

Handicapped Access For Land Agents

… just got my knee replaced. I do have a handicap tag. This will allow me to drive to the barn and my site? That would save so much time and pain.

…name elided… It should, yes.

Battlefield Tent Coordinator

Emily Feathers

Hey folks, I’m the assistant Battlefield Tent coordinator this year and I’ve heard the new link to request space is not really reaching people. (I’ve already asked Social Media to do another round of posts in All the Places so that will go out soon). But I figured it couldn’t hurt to post it here in case anyone needed it and you see this group first.

If your group needs battlefield pavilion space, please use this link. It says Pennsic 53 so you know you have the right one. If your group doesn’t but you know a group that’s been looking for it, feel free to pass it on to them.

Landgrab Day Parking/Flow

Pennsic War Land Agents Joshua MacDonald

Sooooooooo I know you haven’t made any public posts about the actual details of the day (although of course we’ve ALL read through the rules and updates and such because we’re all the bestest land agents evar 😅), but with the details having come out about the new registration traffic flow, I did get a really good question.

So for Land Agents, we go:

Drive up

Pay at registration

Walk to Barn

Get our Land Grab info

Walk to block

Do Land Grabby Things

Walk back to Barn

Sign maps

Get 5+1 car passes

Walk back to car

Drive onto site

Rejoice

Question: Where, exactly, will our cars be parked while we’re off doing Land Grabby Things?

(My THEORY is that the whole registration traffic flow update is for AFTER Land Grab is over - before that, we’re still going to be parking our cars all over the battlefield until you give the all clear and the unwashed masses can drive to their camps.)

HELP US OBI-WAN LANDOBI YOU’RE OUR ONLY HOPE

Land agents with [handicapped] vehicle hang tags and plates can drive through to the Great Hall for Land Grab.

CLOSED GATES UPDATE!

After considerable feedback, Pennsic staff have CHANGED what gates will be open and closed for 2026:

The MERCHANT GATE will now be OPEN for limited hours based on volunteer availability (more information forthcoming) [EDIT: from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily - see update in subsequent post]

The SALLY PORT will now be CLOSED for the duration of Pennsic

The Main Gate will remain closed for the duration of Pennsic

NOTE:

VOLUNTEERING is the only way to keep the Merchant Gate open longer!

Aways remember your medallion when going to/from the Battlefield!

Below is a map with all the gates highlighted in orange. For more details on this update, please see this post from the Mayor:

Mayor’s Post about Closed Gates

The Pennsic War

Mayor Missive #4

Greetings to all good Gentles,

To say that we got a lot of feedback on the new Gate Rules would be an understatement, you broke the record for number of emails in 24 hours. But, I’ve read them all and we have heard your concerns. In fact we share many of them, so we have diligently worked on a solution to try and soften the impact.

Let me begin by explaining the “why” of the closure. With the new registration building operational there will be no more attendees entering Main gate, which will also no longer have an attendant. Said attendant used to also keep an eye on the Merchant gate which would now be completely unmonitored. As a result the difficult decision was made to close the gate.

The only option left is for us (Pennsic) to cover the task of monitoring, and we are talking a lot of volunteer hours here, which initially seemed prohibitive. Fortunately, the Event Resources division (these are the people that take care of a fair part of the accessibility at Pennsic) has stepped up to take on this major task and provide limited opening hours, based on volunteer availability. We can’t thank them enough for this. Details are still to be ironed out and further information will be forthcoming. And, if at any point in time this solution proves more trouble than it’s worth we may have to turn back the clock on it. I am hopeful that it will work. All that said, for safety reasons it was strongly suggested that we have ONE pedestrian crossing and not two in that location. Also it would not be fair to the volunteers securing the merchant gate if we left the back door wide open. Therefore, the Sally Port (fighters gate) will be closed 24/7. This means you HAVE to have your medallion on you to enter main site from Battlefield/B-Blocks at any of three the entry points………Please remember this.

I cannot emphasize enough that it will be fellow attendees who will give of their precious vacation time to maintain this valuable convenience for those whose lives it will make easier. Please, thank them when you enter/exit and possibly consider volunteering yourself.

In the end it’s not a perfect solution but I believe it is the best compromise we could achieve at this time. Stay tuned, there will be more information coming from the Event Resources department.

Yours in Service to the Dream,

Oscar, Pennsic Mayor 53
